The purpose of this interactive session is to learn more about the role of outside consultants’ reviews of a proposed program in the authorization process. The focus will be on the integration of external reviewers’ suggestions into the planning process and tips about selecting consultants, creating the report, and timing.

During the process of planning a new program, data is needed for the entitlement request and authorization proposal. Useful data may include information about comparable program offerings, student enrollment, degrees awarded, and market demand for graduates. In this session, you will learn where to find and how to use different data sources.

This session will address what is meant by diversity and inclusion within new and existing systemwide initiatives. We will discuss integrating diversity into program goals for student learning & assessment, and address issues such as the recruitment and retention of students and faculty, and curricular transformation. Examples of strong diversity strategies as articulated in recently approved authorizations will be distributed.

This session will gather feedback and suggestions to share with senior administration at UW System. It will include an opportunity to discuss what information should be required and what the criteria for approval should be when institutions request approval for extending an existing academic program to a (domestic) remote site.

Joint reviews are the final step in the program planning and review process.
This session will outline the different options institutions may pursue in planning for a joint review. Special attention will be given to the roles of the UW System Academic Planners in this process and the assessment data you will need. Participants will be invited to share their institution’s process as part of the discussion.

UW institutions have developed many articulation agreements with other postsecondary institutions, including over 500 agreements with Wisconsin Technical Colleges. This session will address the different types of agreements, the UW System guidelines for their development, and the ways in which they are reported. Draft templates for developing agreements and examples of current agreements will be provided.

This session will provide an overview of assessment as it relates to new program authorization proposals. What is an effective process for assessing student learning? What constitutes compelling program assessment data? How is the data evaluated and used to improve programs? Examples of strong assessment plans as articulated in recent authorizations will be distributed.
