Academic Staff Regents Award for Excellence

Alliant Energy Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award

These awards recognize teaching of outstanding quality that leads to substantial intellectual growth in students.

Applied Research Grant (ARG) Program - ACSS

Pre-proposals Due: Nov. 14, 2008

Encouraging faculty to utilize their expertise and apply their scholarship to support economic development in Wisconsin.

ARG is offered as a one-year program for all disciplines on all UW System campuses. Now, in collaboration with WiSys, a combined Applied Research Grant-WiSys Technology Advancement Grant (ARG-WiTAG) program is offered as well, with up to three years funding in science and technology fields only. ARG-WiTAG grants are not available for UW-Madison or UW-Milwaukee researchers. However, Madison or Milwaukee faculty may collaborate on ARG-WiTAG grant proposals submitted by other UW campuses.

Closing the Achievement Gap - EDI

Proposals Due:  April 17, 2009 for 09-10 programs

The goal of the grant program is to develop and support programs that are effective in promoting institutional change to foster access and excellence for historically underrepresented populations. Particular attention will be given to models, programs and strategies with demonstrated success in closing gaps in achievement in the areas of access, retention and graduation.

Curricular Redesign Grant Program
- Learning Technology Development Council - OLIT

Supports curriculum redesign and related faculty and staff development in the effective use of technology in teaching and learning within the University of Wisconsin System.

OPID Conference Development (CD) Grant Program

Proposals Due: April 3, 2009

The Office of Professional and Instructional Development (OPID) runs 2 grant cycles per year for this program, offering up to $1,000 in support for programs that promote cooperation and exchange among UW System faculty and are focused on the enhancement of undergraduate teaching and learning. Programs are typically workshops, presentations, or mini-conferences on teaching-related subjects.

OPID Lesson Study Training Grants

For 2008, OPID invites applications from UW System faculty and teaching staff for grants of $2,500 to support small teams of instructors to engage in lesson study to focus on the design and study of lessons that address essential liberal education learning outcomes in introductory courses.

OPID Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Grant (UTLG) Program

This year’s Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Grants are intended to support projects which focus on essential student learning outcomes with recognition of the intentional relationship between liberal education, inclusive excellence, and best teaching practices..

Outstanding Women of Color in Education Awards

The Outstanding Women of Color in Education Award Ceremony was initiated in 1994 to acknowledge the ties and shared concerns among administrators, faculty, staff, and students within women’s studies and ethnic studies, and to uphold a continuing commitment to Plan 2008: Educational Quality through Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

P.B. Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement

To honor Dr. Poorman’s legacy to the state of Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin System and the LGBTQ communities, the UW System LGBTQ Inclusivity Initiative has established an annual award in her name. The award is intended to recognize a UW System faculty, academic or classified staff, or registered UWS student for her or his excellence in advocacy, research, teaching, or service on behalf of the LGBTQ communities.

PK-16 Grants: Teacher Quality Initiative - ACSS

Proposals Due:  Mid-February

To support projects that will advance the successful implementation and evaluation of quality teacher preparation, involve faculty from both education and subject-matter disciplines, and engage partners from PK-12.  Funding will support campus activities related to initial preparation and/or on-going professional development of teachers, including mentoring and new teacher induction.

Race and Ethnicity Campus Reading Seminars
- Institute on Race and Ethnicity (IRE)

These grants support reading groups and scholarly exchanges on racial/ethnic subjects by making funds available for the purchase of books that focus on racial/ethnic themes. Maximum award of $400.00, to be used for book purchases only.

Racial and Ethnic Studies Support Grants
- Institute on Race and Ethnicity (IRE)

Proposals Due: March 23, 2009

Includes support for scholarly research on racial and ethnic topics with the intention of publication, the development and teaching of new courses pertaining to racial and ethnic topics, miscellaneous projects such as events and lectures, and minority faculty research/retention awards.

Supporting the Growth Agenda Action Steps

This new grant program seeks to support and advance the UW System Growth Agenda Action Steps with projects in the following categories:

  • New pathways to degrees and other related initiatives to enhance educational opportunities for Wisconsin’s underserved adult population;
  • New or Expanded Projects for a Wisconsin KnowHow2Go Network, enlisting college undergraduates, faculty, and staff as mentors to K-12 students;
  • Collaboration with PK-12 community to enrich college preparation in the area of Mathematics.
  • New or Expanded Projects for the development of a Student Engagement Portfolio

Regents Teaching Excellence Award

These awards are given to faculty and academic staff members at UW System institutions in recognition of outstanding career achievement in teaching. In addition, one award is given to an academic department, program or other academic unit which demonstrates exceptional commitment to and effectiveness in teaching.

Wisconsin ESEA Title II Improving Teacher Quality Program (WITQ)

Proposals Due:  October 9, 2009

This is a competitive grants program for increasing student achievement in the arts, civics and government, economics, English, foreign languages, geography, history, mathematics, reading or language arts, and science, by improving the teaching and principal quality at the K-12 level in Wisconsin's public and private schools. The funds will provide grants to eligible partnerships.
