The Office of Academic and Faculty Programs advises and provides leadership and service to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, President of the UW System, Board of Regents, and institutions in the System in formulating, interpreting, and implementing policies related to academic programs, research, teaching and learning. AFP provides leadership for the UW System by serving the Board of Regents and the institutions in the following primary areas:

  1. Academic Program Approval and Review. AFP works with the UW institutions on the development and approval of new academic degree programs and in reviewing existing programs to ensure high quality and to avoid unnecessary program duplication;
  2. Academic Policies and Procedures. AFP develops, implements and monitors policies and procedures addressing all facets of academic programming and provides guidelines and support related to faculty issues, roles, workload and evaluation;
  3. Faculty and Academic Staff Representatives. AFP supports the interests and issues of faculty and academic staff to System leadership and to the Board of Regents while encouraging inter-campus collaboration among them;
  4. Professional and Instructional Development;
    1. The Office of Professional and Instructional Development works closely with the UW institutions to provide a variety of faculty and instructional academic staff development programs aimed at improving teaching and student learning, promoting excellence, collaboration and innovation in teaching and learning activities, and the sharing of best practices;
    2. The Women's Studies Consortium. AFP works closely with the UW institutions to develop and promote Women’s Studies in the UW System, which supports curricular transformation, faculty development, pedagogies and practices that encompass multiple forms of diversity;
    3. The office of Curriculum Redesign through Integration of Technology. AFP provides advice and support for the integration of technology into new and existing curricular programs;
    4. International Education: AFP works with the UW institutions to support and promote international academic programming, including student and faculty exchanges, inter-campus collaborative study abroad, and represents the interests of campus Int’l Ed directors to System leadership and the Board of Regents;
    5. Applied Research Grant Program/WiSys & Wisconsin Distinguished Professorships. AFP administers several grant programs that support the advancement of research encouraging faculty & staff to utilize their expertise and apply their scholarship to support economic development in Wisconsin;
  5. Liaison. AFP actively seeks input from its many internal and external constituents, encourages collaboration, and serves as liaison between UW System, other educational agencies and institutions and state agencies.
